From San Diego–

Tuesday was a great day.  Tremendous successes and some disappointments.  The front yard Bible Clubs had prepared so well, but few kids came out.  This is SDCWC first attempt at Bible Clubs and we are helping them prepare better for the future.  The other locations had lots of work and ministry.  I mentioned yesterday that we had several groups who had heard about us and wanted to get a team to come help them.  As a result of fewer kids at the Bible Clubs today we have created a new team that is going to be working construction and remodeling for the rest of the week.  We had many happy people as we called to say “I know that I told you that we couldn’t help, but now we CAN”  The Oceanside team finished a fence that the Saturday team began, the Volunteer team worked in a food bank and went door to door in foreclosure prevention.  The New Season’s team did an outstanding VBS in the morning and is remodeling a home in the afternoon.  Today we get to sing at an independent living center.  It is only 8 AM here and I am already exhausted (just kidding).  Keep praying for us!  Thanks for all the other prayers you have said in our behalf.

Today was a great day as we scattered to begin the ministry teams.  Teams were in Oceanside doing construction; going door to door inviting kids to Front Yard Bible Clubs; helping a new church get off the ground; visiting Alzheimer patients; and leading a VBS in a disadvantaged area of town.  An interesting thing, word is getting out about the wonderful kids from Texas and the work that they are doing, everyday Pastors from churches all over the area are calling asking to have a team come and help them.  It is very gratifying to hear their requests, help us pray for discernment to know what places we should send teams to work.  We have great kids, but this trip would NOT be possible without the fantastic adults that we have here in so many different ways.  We have GREAT adults!  (too)

The Alliance Choir and orchestra from Liberdade Church’s arts and music department in São Paulo, Brazil will be in concert Sunday night, July 25 at Tallowood.

The 75-voice choir and 25 piece orchestra, led by Maestro Donaldo Guedes, will present a program of secular and sacred music beginning at 7 p.m. in Tallowood’s worship center.  The organization is on a mission tour, and will be performing in San Antonio earlier in the day and from Houston they will fly to Hawaii to sing for the Baptist World Alliance meeting.

Some of the songs will be sung in English, and those sung in Portuguese will be translated into English via overhead projector screens.

Visitors are welcome and encouraged to attend.

From San Diego

Today is our first day of worship on the tour.  We started out in chilly Solana Beach singing for the 8:45 service that was contemporary.  Then, we had the chance to be in the traditional service at 10:30.  For most of us it was our first infant baptism, but unlike what I thought would be the case, the minister said that we are welcoming them today into our community, and today we begin to pray for them to one day accept Christ as their personal savior.  It was Tallowood’s “home dedication” with a little water on the baby’s head (and they really didn’t like it too much).  Tonight was an incredible night with San Diego Christian Worship Center –a congregation who passionately love the Lord.  The kids sang their hearts out!  Players have been very inspirational.  It was a joy to be in both congregations.  Pray for us tomorrow we have a full day of ministry.  Thanks so much for praying for us.

On Saturday the kids spent the morning all over San Diego county.
Some were building back packs to be handed out to homeless teens in
downtown San Diego, others worked construction in Oceanside, others
walked door to door inviting children to VBS, others went into an
Arabic and Hispanic area to invite them to a dinner and to hear a
message about Christ. After a hard day we headed to Solana Beach
Presbyterian church for a evening concert that was one of the best (if
not the best) first night tour concerts that I can remember. It was a
wonderful, wonderful day.

We have an early start on Sunday heading back to Solana Beach to lead
in all their AM services. Then, on Sunday night we will be at San
Diego Christian Worship Center where Alice Pullin’s nephew is the
Pastor. It will be another great day.

Tallowood’s outstanding Sonlight choir, consisting of 50 high school students accompanied by 14 adult sponsors and director Randy Kilpatrick, departs for San Diego Friday morning for an 11-day mission trip.

Tallowoodtalking.com will be providing visual and written updates on the trip as the group progresses through concerts and work assignments in Southern California. Their primary base of operations will be the San Diego Christian College where they will reside in the campus dorms.

Concert locations include Solana Beach Presbyterian Church, San Diego Christian Worship Center, Belmont Village in Cardiff by the Sea, Belmont Village in Sabre Springs, Lake Avenue Church in Los Angeles and First Baptist Church in Temple City.

The group returns to Houston on Monday, July 26.
